Georgetown Consumer Price Index – November/December 2024

At the end of December 2024, the Georgetown Consumer Price Index (CPI) was recorded at 143.51, an increase from 143.07 at the end of November 2024, indicating a monthly inflation rate of 0.3 %. The primary contributors to the decrease were the Food and Furniture categories, which rose by 0.6 % and 0.2%, respectively.

The price increases within the Food category were primarily due to higher costs for Pulses & Pulse Products (1.6 %), Meat, Fish & Eggs (1.1 %), Milk & Milk Products (1.0 %),

Vegetables and Vegetable Products (0.9 %), Condiments and Spices (0.4 %), Oil & Fats (excluding Butter) (0.2 %) and Alcoholic Beverages & Intoxicants (0.2 %). Conversely, the Fruits & Fruit Products saw a decline of -0.2 %.

In the Furniture category, sub-category Cleaning Materials saw an increase of 0.7 %. To mention there was an increase of 0.5 % observed in the sub-category Therapeutic Appliances. Conversely, a decline of 0.1 % was experienced in Goods for Personal Care.

Over the past 12 months, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 2.9 %, largely driven by significant price increases in various categories: Food (5.6 %), Education, Recreation, and Cultural Services (3.3 %), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (1.0 %), Medical Care and Health Services (0.7 %), Housing (0.2 %) and Transport and Communication (0.1 %). In contrast, the Furniture category recorded a decline of -0.4 % during this period.
