Georgetown Consumer Price Index – March 2024 / April 2024

The Georgetown Consumer Price Index (CPI) at the end of April 2024 was 139.39 compared to 139.13 at the end of March 2024, representing an inflation of 0.2 percent.

The Food and Medical Care & Health Services categories were the main drivers of the monthly increase. These categories increased overall by 0.4 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively, at the end of April 2024, when compared to the previous month.

The increase in prices for Food and Medical Care & Health Services categories were accounted for by increased prices in Fruits & Fruits Products (1.6 percent), Pulses & Pulse Products (1.0 percent), Vegetables & Vegetables Products (0.9 percent), Meat, Fish & Eggs and Milk & Milk Products (0.4 percent respectively), Cereals & Cereals Products and Non-alcoholic Beverages (0.1 percent respectively), and Medical & Personal Care 1.0 percent) sub-categories.

The increase in the Food and Medical Care & Health Services categories were offset by a decrease in the Furniture category within the consumer basket, which contracted by 0.1 percent.

Over the last 12 months, the CPI increased by 2.9 percent on account of increases in the Food (5.9 percent), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (2.0 percent), Medical Care & Health Services (1.6 percent), Housing and Education, Recreation & Cultural Services (0.2 percent, respectively) categories. The Furniture category contracted by 0.9 percent during the 12-month period.
