Georgetown Consumer Price Index –August / September

 

The Georgetown Consumer Price Index (CPI) at the end of September 2023 was 138.05 compared to 137.58 at the end of August 2023, representing an inflation of 0.3 percent.

The food category was the main driver of the monthly increase in all items, with an overall increase of 0.8 percent at the end of September 2023, when compared to the previous month.

The rise in prices for food was accounted for by increased prices in sub-categories Vegetables & Vegetables Products (3.4 percent), Fruits & Fruits Products (2.4 percent), Condiments & Spices (1.0 percent), Meat, Fish & Eggs (0.2 percent), Non-Alcoholic Beverages (0.2 percent), and Cereals & Cereal Products (0.1 percent). This overall increase in the food category was offset by reduced prices in the Pulses & Pulse Products (-0.5 percent) subcategory.

Additionally, while there were no increases in the other subcategories, a decrease was observed in subcategory Purchased Transport Services (-0.6 percent).

Over the last 12 months, the CPI increased by 1.0 percent on account of increases in food (2.8 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (2.6 percent), furniture (0.9 percent) and clothing (0.2 percent) categories.
